Plum Spritzer with Ginger and Kafir Lime | TENDING the TABLEA few weeks ago I was invited to join in a virtual cocktail party featuring fun, seasonal, sippable recipes from various bloggers. Now, I’m not a big drinker…at all. I’ll occasionally have a cocktail, get a little silly, then promptly fall asleep. On very special occasions I have been known to imbibe more than one glass of quality sparkling wine and get more than a little silly. Only those closest to me have had the privilege of witnessing my bubble induced antics (I’m talking to you Zoe and Anders). So, when developing a summer cocktail recipe I decided on something non-alchoholic, but still very fun and fizzy. You could easily add some gin or tequila to this if you prefer a more boozy version. To see the full list of participants in the virtual cocktail party and more summer cocktail ideas head over to With Food and Love or Will Frolic for Food.

Plum Spritzer with Ginger and Kafir Lime | TENDING the TABLE

*Makrut lime is the preferred term for “kaffir lime”. According to Slate, the term “kaffir lime” has a complicated history with derogatory racial implications. With this in mind, I’ve removed the term from this post and replaced it with “makrut lime”. I apologize for any offense and subsequent confusion.

Serves 4

2 plums, halved and pitted

2 inches fresh ginger, peeled

3 makrut lime leaves (see note above)

3 tablespoons brown sugar

1/2 cup water

16 oz. soda water

Combine the plums, ginger, makrut lime leaves, sugar and water in a blender and puree until smooth.

Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth, discarding the pulp.

Pour 3 ounces of the strained plum puree into each glass and top with 4 ounces of soda water.
