Thank you to everyone who attended last week’s brunch. Your donation to City Fruit will pay for the gleaning of 300 pounds of fruit and feed 1200 families. I’m working on plans for the next brunch, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, I’m taking a week to simplify things, starting with my diet. I’m forgoing wheat, dairy and refined sugar in favor of whole grains, lentils, and plenty of veggies…with a date shake thrown in here and there to satisfy my sweet tooth.

This shake is one of my favorite snacks. It’s super easy, healthy, and satisfying. You can vary the recipe by adding spices like cinnamon or cardamom. Toasted coconut also makes a delicious addition.

DATE SHAKE

Serves 2

INGREDIENTS

4 dates, pitted

2 tablespoons almond butter

1 banana, peeled

2 tablespoons cocoa nibs

1 1/3 cups almond milk

PROCEDURE

Combine all ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth.
